Beware of wasting your time.
Well, Charlie, you sound like a straight up kind of guy who
can recognize a nutter/ malcontent/ mason-shafter when you
see one! But, hard as it may seem to believe, this venue was
once a blooming metropolis or desert if you will (they are
quite lovely in bloom) for all manner of literary exchange of a
uk.localnature. Why, we had ROBBIE contests on a weekly
basis -- I never won, mind you, but that's because your man
was strict as can be about not going OVER THE LIMIT.
Alas, I always went over the maximum allowed limit, and
paid for it dearly, I must say. It's a forgone conclusion that
Gerald the Ilford Knobbler always won the contests, although
I think that the *monkey doctor* had a good result early on.

Occasionally your man would treat us to a chapter from his
latest play, which would no doubt wind up being PRODUCED
on stage in the future; but mostly Robbie engaged in idle chit chat
of the most cordial and genteel nature imaginable. People often
wrote to me "That Robbie is quite the chappie, isn't he?" and I
would invariably respond "Yes, he is!"

SO, many thanks for the warning; I shall indeed beware of
all manner of time wasting/

Yours truly,
Bettina
Beware of wasting your time.
It's a waste of time posting to any of the < uk.local.*> groups
because these news groups, all of them, have been from the very
beginning and will be to the very end safe play areas for all sorts of
raging nutters, social malcontents, control freaks and malevolent
beings.
You may feel that they should go elsewhere but where? The asylums
are all closed. Every so often they stop taking their medication and
go off their fucking heads. What would you have of them? Standing in
their back yards at midnight howling to the full moon and frightening
the shit out of the neighbours into the bargain? Have them running
around shafting masons, suspected vampires, werewolves, communists,
socialists, conservatives and women with vaginal warts by the dozen?
OR harmlessly making utter cunts of themselves in a uk.local group?
Lets face it what is one other cunt amongst the many in this group?? I
know what I prefer!!
The uk.local hierarchy of newsgroups is a valuable safety valve which
helps to keep society a wee bit more safe.
You may disagree. I would be interested to hear your opinion and no
doubt would the rest of the group. Thanks in advance.
Charlie.

I'm still quite the chappie, Betty!

What MD and others couldn't (professional footballer accent) never get, woz
like how I hate and despise humbug and cant.

Perhaps we can have more compy tissions.

YaY! <clapping hands> Maybe Mr. Hope will join the fun, and
dear Stuart and Mister Knobbler and maybe even coax MD out of
sci-fi retirement.

It's bound to be even more fun than watching Gordon Ramsey cook
an omelet.

(my omelets are good as his any day)

Yours Truly,
Bettina

Good God! And I thought I'd laid the Ilford Knobbler to rest many earth
moons ago. Just goes to show what people will do on a slow Friday evening
(after watching Lethal Weapon 4, of course).

A comp-a-tition? Wowza! That sounds like lots of fun. Well, a bit of fun,
anyway. And my memory is of only winning one, although I will happily claim
more if no one else does.

Oh, and I see a "competition" post later in the list. Maybe I'll take a
peek.

For now - bye bye.
