Advice please: submitting a piece to multiple magazines

Hi

Just a simple question, I hope:

What are the rules/ethics surrounding submitting the same piece to a number
of newspapers and/or magazines at the same time?

I have a piece linked to an event coming up soon (about 2 weeks away). I'm
concerned that if I submit it to one publication at a time, the event may
have arrived before someone accepts it (if indeed anyone does accept it).

On the other hand, if two publications accepted it simultaneously, is it
possible to withdraw it from one without making them very fed up?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

No, but the reality is if the piece is time-critical you should just
get it in and run the risk. If the editor is professional they won't
bear a grudge, it's just the nature of the work. If you pull it after
they accept then they would have some grounds to be annoyed.

OK, thanks MD. Pretty much as I thought.
